February 2024 Edition!

It's a new month, were I wanted to try a few new things than the usual!

New Game ! [03]
Name: Sonic the Hedgehog
Console: Sega AGES (Nintendo Switch)
Year: 1991
Date: 05/02/2024

Knew we were gonna get to this sooner rather than later wwwww

"Sonic. How I hate him." Sonic 1, as a kid, was the "weird" one to me. Sonic's slow, can't spindash, the levels are so long and difficult. But for some reason I kept playing it again and again, and getting to like it more and more. And that's because this game was designed like an Arcade title, you have to play it again and again to get better and improve your times! At this time, Sonic wasn't called "the fastest thing alive" because his speed cap was high, but because if you know what you're doing, you can breeze through those levels as fast as you want!

I'm not gonna hide it, this isn't even the first time I've played this game this year lol, because of that, I wasn't really paying attention to what I was doing, since I've probably done it a hundred times by now! But thanks to playing it this way, it made me realize why this game really shines. It shows that what you do has consequences. If you go slow, you might get a worse time, but you'll be safer, and even find hidden goodies along the way!

I've never seen that room!

If you go fast, you'll feel as if you're the one controlling the level, but one mess-up and you probably get sent right to the start of the level, since the checkpoints often are on the lower routes! So you have to find a nice balance between what you know and you've learned, and where to go fast or not! This game can be played however you want, as a quick skill check or as a nice exploration journey!

I really got unlucky there lol

So yeah, once again, it's a classic and a must play for anyone, but if you've played it and didn't enjoy it, I'd say give it a few more tries, learn stuff, improve! It's short and that makes it easy to practice!

That's three games down!
Hopefully I'll get to more unique stuff next...

The number of times I must have seen this screen...

(Extra "Game fucks Miya up" moment!)

New Game ? [Bonus]
Name: Some Flash Games!
Console: coolmathsgames.com
Year: After 2000
Date: 07/02/2024

Count this as a bonus!
Here is a compliation of games I've played during class on Coolmathgames www I found them just by using the random game feature. (seeing so many shitty mobile games on it was saddening...)

Johnny Upgrade

Johnny Upgrade was a very simple game with a premise I've always loved as a kid in flash games, when you start out with a really bad character but keep playing again and again until you become super OP. This game only has one level, but still manages to feel satisfying through its gameplay loop, plus I love how scared Johnny looks even with max stats. The level is kind of short, but it's fun to find the fastest route to get the most coins possible. Sadly, the final boss was kind of jank and dragged on a bit too long, but beating it still gives you a sense of accomplishement, so I'd say give it a try!

This was probably the best thing I could have done today!
I actually finished the game a second time just to get this screenshot lol

Plactions

Plactions is a puzzle platformer with 24 short levels, it's main mechanic is that you can only use the moves the level gives you, either from the start, or you have to find them through the levels. Jumping, Dashing and all of that is limited, and sometimes you even have to pick them up in the right order to get through obstacles. The puzzles aren't hard at all, but still need a bit of thinking and feel great when you beat one, some quick "ohh that's clever" moments, but nothing more. It being easy and short doesn't mean it's not a good time though!

A fun game!

Jet Boy

It's another game with 24 single screen levels, but it's a fairly hard platformer! Its controls are very unique, you really need to learn how to control your vertical momentum, it gets fairly difficult, it made me think of some late Super Meatboy levels sometimes. The graphics are a bit on the simpler side, especially the title screen, but it's a short and unique fun time! I don't know what else to say it's just great lol

What is that..?

Maybe I should be paying more attention in class... not www
New Game ! [04]
Name: Castlevania
Console: NES (Played on: RetroArch Nestopia)
Year: 1986
Date: 08/02/2024

Euwuughhhhehghfhjgfjlkgpffdl...

Okay so, the first few levels were fun right, the music and everything are amazing, but the enemy and boss patterns are awful, it just moves everywhere and doesn't go well with your controls at all. I'm sure that with more practice, and playing the game again and again, learning patterns and enemy placements, it would be very fun! But doing a regular playthrough just wasn't. The game's fairly short so I'll give it that, I was expecting it to drag one for way longer. I like how items work though, how you have to find them and can only hold onto one at a time, so choosing which you should go for is a nice idea. Though, I hate the fact that the number of item uses you have is represented by HEARTS, that you collect in the stage? I know it was an early NES game but using hearts for something that isn't health really is annoying.

Despite that, it still was a bit fun, I can see why people liked it back in the day! A strong sense of challenge and a game you can play over and over and get better at was the norm back then, so I can see how it got its legacy! But, it hasn't aged well at all, and isn't really enjoyable unless you spend hundreds of hours into it.

I did not feel any sense of accomplishement seeing that lol

That's 4 games I guess, I wonder what'll happen next~
New Manga ! [02]
Name: GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class [GA 芸術科アートデザインクラス]
Author: Satoko Kiyuzuki
Year: 2004
Date: 10/02/2024

A manga all about art, this can only be interesting!

But, in contrary to other art mangas mostly being about art clubs, this one is about an entire art school! This makes it so that the manga actually is about art! Through the characters' assignements and activity, you get to learn new art things, it's really unique! For example, the author dedicates the few colored pages they have to teaching you about art movements, or the meaning of colors, it's really interesting but still fun thanks to the amazing characters! They all bounce off one another extremely well, they actually feel like friends instead of just existing together for the same jokes like a lot of slice of life sadly do. Plus, they're divided into two groups that sometimes meet each other, the first years and the third years that actually are in an art club inside the art school, seeing the contrast between the two is really interesting and gives you a different outlook on their lives! Still, despite what I've said, it still is a comedic manga, and it even does that well! I love how a lot of chapters start with a joke, and that joke comes back to the end of the chapter almost as if the original one only was a setup for it, it makes each chapter feel grounded as jokes often come back and accumulate in very organic ways, nothing feels forced, this is how the characters are! And even with that, they still have some character development, from students to teachers, you feel them growing across the different volumes, and the final one gets fairly emotional, it was really great!

It being an old manga was funny too, since it ran for so long, it always felt funny to see new technologies just suddenly exist, like when Noda took out a smartphone for the first time with no explanation like it always existed before, I really love this manga, and it being about art, some pages are extremely deep and gorgeous, it's so good.
I recommend this a lot to anyone at least a bit interested in art, or those who want to laugh in a new way!

We're all under the same sky~

New Game ! [05]
Name: Magic Cat Academy (1 & 2)
Console: google.com
Year: 2016/2020
Date: 10/02/2024

Google games, lol, I need some fresh air after the last game.

Magic Cat Academy is one of those Google Doodles that was made for Halloween 2015! It was a game in which you play as a black magician cat named Momo who has to save her school from evil ghosts! The gameplay is very interesting, as you have to draw shapes that are linked to each ghost to defeat them, sometimes ghosts having chains of shapes you need to do. This game has a very arcade-y feel, where you can do combos, and you can try to match up the shape chains of the ghosts and go faster to get a higher score! It's fairly easy, but it's really fun!

The second game takes place right after the last, where the big Ghost went into the ocean, and so Momo follows him to defeat him once more! It has more mechanics than the first one, and more unique bosses, it also is a bit more difficult, which makes it even more fun! They're both short and sweet, and Momo has made a lot of appearances in Google Doodles since her first game, so I wonder when we'll see here again next!

Who could say no to a cat like that!

I counted the two games as one, seeing how short they are.
New Game ! [06]
Name: Mega Man II
Console: NES (Played on: Mega Man Legacy Collection [Switch])
Year: 1988
Date: 10/02/2024

A lot happening today huh? I hate that it's written "Megaman" in the logo, but that officially, it's "Mega Man"

After the disaster that was playing Castlevania, I was really scared by starting this game up, and at first, I was right as it completely destroyed me! (I have witnesses for this.) But then, I looked up some guides, and it was very fun to look up which Robot Master I had to defeat first in order to get an easier time! In this game, you have to defeat 8 Robot Masters, each having their own stages before the fight. Each stage is really unique in its locations to its music, it all feels like different worlds and I love it! This game's presentation is amazing, and each level has its own gimmick, from platforms on rails to giant insta-kill lasers, you always need to be on your toes! Every Robot Master also uses its unique weapon, a weapon that you can unlock once you beat him! And the funny thing is, each boss is also weak to a specific weapon (and sometimes an "Item", which are different ways to create platforms), so you can have an easier time if you plan your route in a specific way. Maybe too easy? The bosses have nice attack patterns, even if difficult to dodge, but with the right weapon, you can absolutely destroy them, the weapon they're weak against completely obliterates them, but to be honest, that's probably for the best www. This also kind of works for the stages, depending on what weapons or item you use, you can make it less or more difficult, like using the Time Stopper in Quick Man's stage to make it easier, or to do the entire game with using the basic shot as much as possible! Plus, switching weapons is quick and snappy, I love it!

Apparently, Metal Man is EXTREMELY weak to his own weapon, so this happened during the boss rush.
I got really confused www

This game has a difficult and normal mode, I went with normal since it made more sense (Fun fact, difficult mode is just the original Japanese version's damage values!). The game is an old NES game, so it is fairly hard, but in contrary to some other game, it doesn't feel unfair, since you can choose what you do, and Mega Man controls very well and is perfectly responsive. I love how each weapon has its own ammo bar, it makes it so that you have to manage what to use and when, sometimes even making puzzle segments out of that, it's very fun! And also, enemies respawn the moment they're offscreen and loaded back in, at first I saw this as a bad thing, but since any enemy has a change of dropping some ammo, health points or even lives, it makes it very easy to farm anything anywhere you want, if you have the patience to do that, that is. The only part I'd call confusing is Wily's Dragon fight, as I thought you had to damage him during the chase, and when that didn't work I thought I just couldn't find the right weapon (you have to wait for him to stop to damage him), and the truly only bullshit part is Wily himself, as his spaceship's patterns are atrocious, and his second phase, you NEED to use the Lead Bubble to damage him, if you don't have any ammo for it, well sucks to be you! But still, the different items and weapons make it so that the game can be brutal if you want, or just hard at worse if you use the right ones.

Miya messes up, saves herself, yet still dies.

I'd say this game still holds up to this day! Plus, looking up guides and maps online is something I find fun for some reason, so I really enjoyed it, it sucks that it leaves you on such a sour note with the final boss fights, but the overall main game is very enjoyable. In contrary to Castlevania, this made me want to check out more Mega Man games, so stay tuned for that, maybe!

I was never booksmart...

New Site Update?!!!

After thinking for a bit and getting some feedback, I decided to divide the updates between months so that we don't end up with a massive page that takes 5 years to load, hopefully some months wont be completely empty!

New Game ! [07]
Name: Mega Man
Console: NES (Played on: Mega Man Legacy Collection [Switch])
Year: 1987
Date: 11/02/2024

Well, that was faster than I expected! Comparing it to its sequel feels a bit unfair, but since that's the order I played them in, I'll still do that lol

After playing Mega Man II, I wanted to check out the game before it, and so I already did www. It's a bit shorter, only have 6 Robot Masters in contrary to 8, but it's still a ton of fun. You can feel that it's their first try at this though, the enemy patterns are way more unpredictable, and Mega Man feels more slippery, it makes the game a bit more unfair, and I found myself running past enemies I would have tried to fight in the sequel, as in this game, they all have way more health points. The weapons you get after defeating the Robot Masters also sometimes feel way too situational apart from like 3 of them, but Cut Man's is so good that you probably won't need any other apart from specific points. The weapons don't feel as overpowered against the bosses either, though it doesn't mean you can't destroy some of them if you know what you're doing.

I sure do love pausing!

The game can feel a bit janky at times, with enemies throwing you off the ledge or having a lot of sprite flickering, but it's fine, even if it does feel more unfair than the next one. The final boss still is really spammy and bullshit though.

Sonic 1 moment

This game still holds up, but nowhere near as much as the second one, it's still really short though so it's a nice time and I still recommend it!

I'm starting to hate this guy more and more...

New Game ! [08]
Name: Sonic the Hedgehog
Console: Master System (Played on: Retroarch: Picodrive)
Year: 1991
Date: 11/02/2024

Really on a roll today huh! hah, a roll.

Sonic 1 is a game I've played to death, but almost at the same time as the original well known one, a version of it was released on SEGA's prior console, the Master System! And for an 8 bit game, this game looks and sounds very nice! And Sonic controls how you'd expect him to, it feels good to play. While released practically the same day, this game only has 3 zones in common with the original, and 3 brand new ones, it's really cool that this version got its own levels! The biggest problem is that you can't pick up your rings once you get hit, which is the main gameplay design of the original, so it just feels kinda off. And the game also is EXTREMELY laggy the moment more than one enemy is loaded on screen, for a Sonic game, it gets really, really slow, especially when underwater as well. The level design also is a bit questionable, the first 3 zones are really great, but then it just is levels where you have blind jumps, or an actual maze, and you know how much I love mazes in video games.

Here is the culmination of all of these problems

The game still is enjoyable though, for the first half that is. What I've heard is that the second Master System game is way more brutal and unfair than this one. Exactly like the next Mario game, I really don't know which to play first, but I'm not looking forward to it www. I'd say check this game out, but don't bother actually finishing it.

Smonic

I really played a lot this weekend, next week is gonna be a bit hard for me, but hopefully I'll still pull through.
Just like these old NES games...
(A lot of these clips are of me dying, huh...?)

New Manga ! [03]
Name: I Can't Believe I Slept With You! [一度だけでも、後悔してます。]
Author: Miyako Miyahara
Year: 2019
Date: 12/02/2024

The first Yuri of the year! Surprised it took this long, I need to find more

From its name, I should have expected it, but it starts extremely fast, and a lot of things happen in the first few pages. But it still works as a setup for the whole story, and is actually explained and makes sense by the end! What I like about this manga is that it's not just a regular romance but with girls, one already knows she loves women but already had bad moments because of it, and so she's not sure in whether or not to engage in it, and the other never even had a relationship with another girl, making her question if she's even allowed to feel this way. This all makes the story feel surprisingly realistic at times, even if it does get a bit too bold at times www. It reminded me a lot of me and my girlfriend~ haha. Sadly, it falls into the romance trap of ending exactly the moment they get together, I hate when they do that, I wanna see them when they're actually together! I don't really know what else to say because of how short it is, but it feels really nice to read and the characters are very lovable even if they do make weird choices haha.
Overall, even if it's pretty short, it's still a good read and another interesting take on the genre, I'd recommend it

New Manga ! [04]
Name: Futari Escape [ふたりエスケープ]
Author: Taguchi Shouichi
Year: 2019
Date: 15/02/2024

Escaping from reality? I sure do know a thing or two about that!

Despite it being labled at a romance for some reason, it isn't at all, even if theres like 3 panels where it could be implied that's about it sadly. But, Futari Escape still is an amazing story of friendship between two more than 20 year olds! A mangaka who never meets her dead-lines, and a..jobless girl...? The premise sounds really weird, but what they do is go on outings or do outlandish things to escape from their responsibilities. And it never turns out well, even when they actually try to work. It often feels surreal without having any magic things, and even at their worst, you can really feel the friendship between the two main characters, and I think it's nice to just see them have fun for the sake of it, especially the extreme consequence this always has on them. Funnily enough, none of the characters are ever named, yet you still get really attached to them, and the ending still manages to tie it all together, and the entire manga has hints to it, it was amazing to figure out!
It's still a bit short, and I wanted more as always, but it's still a nice and hilarious read like nothing else, every chapter is different, I recommend it!

me when i see my expenses at the end of the month

Little suprise life update! Wow really?

I've been going through tests again and again, I've been doing fairly alright on them? I think it should be alright, the scariest thing is that I need to find what to do next year, and I have NO idea for this.

I've been cooking up something for the site though, it's gonna take a while, but it'll be really cool if I get it done!
If you wanna see an actually good site, today is the 15th, and every time the date ends in 5 my best friend mister Pudding Pudinesco does a blog update on his site! It often has art from me, so check it out by clicking his button on the left or by clicking here!

New Manga ! [05]
Name: The Summer You Were There [君と綴るうたかた]
Author: Yuama
Year: 2020
Date: 15/02/2024

Oh boy, where to start with this.

After the whole golf manga incident from back in January, I decided to actually start reading manga without knowing anything about them apart from their title and maybe the genre they're in, give you more surprises! Maybe too many suprises, haha. "The Summer You Were There" is a Yuri manga, shocker I know, it seems like your typical loner girl gets with the popular girl type schtick, but it's actually way more than that. It deals with a lot of themes I haven't seen, again, but this time fairly dark ones. I'd say its biggest theme is regret and worry. I guess in a way, everything that happens is fairly predictable, but what it tackles really resonated with me, I didn't exactly relate to it, but it's really easy to find similarities between it and some of your own memories. At first I thought it was kinda stupid, the whole pretend girlfriend thing wasnt something I really liked because you KNOW how it's gonna end up, but it keeps throwing hints at you at the bigger things to come, and once they arrive, it manages to really hit, which makes the fact that it's predictable a good thing in the end, the anticipation all builds up to punch you in the face really, really hard. I said it already, but it made me think of my own experiences a lot, I don't really know if it was in a good way or not, but it did made me think a lot. Oh yeah, the art and also text design complements it a lot, it has some absolutely gorgeous and hitting panels.
It's really hard to talk about it without big major spoilers, even if the title does say it all, go give it a try if you want to cry! It's one of the few manga who ever did that to me!

This review was all over the place lol,
this made my feelings go all messed up so i guess it's representative of it~

New Game ! [09]
Name: Mega Man 3
Console: NES (Played on: Mega Man Legacy Collection [Switch])
Year: 1990
Date: 17/02/2024

Me, playing games from a lot of different series? When have I said that?.

Hmm, I don't really know what to think of this game, maybe that's my fault for playing the first 3 in less than a week. It's a clear step up from Mega Man 2, the presentation such as the visual design and the music is way better! (though they pitched up a few sound effects for some reason, and it threw me off.) It also is the first game in the series to have ingame cutscenes, and the story is pretty interesting, with Wily joining Dr. Light, but then betraying him and all of that, and the appearance of another mysterious robot. The levels are great, the themes they have are tied even more to their respective Robot Master and I love that. The weapons don't all feel as useful as the Mega Man 2 ones, but the entire roster still is pretty great, and the inclusion of Rush (the dog!), even having Rush Coil from the very start, makes for an interesting switch on the formula! Mega Man controls as well as in 2, except now, he can go way faster on ladders (thank god), and he finally has the famous slide! It gives you a new way to dodge attacks, and even new level design opportunites, plus it controls REALLY great, being able to cancel it is amazing.

Make me Slide, with my Dog...

The game is also even longer than MM2, but this is where I start to doubt on how much I actually like this game. It has a lot of padding from making you replay the same stages but harder, having to fight bosses from MM2, then the Yellow Devil again THEN all the Robot Masters from 3 AGAIN, it all feels a bit pointless, even if it is still fun. The final Wily castle was pretty fun as usual, and it gives you a LOT of E-Tanks and lives, which is really great for this type of levels, so thanks game.

So much stuff before the final boss!

Another issue I have with it is that the hitboxes sometime feel very jank, it happened in the first 2 games aswell, but it feels even moreso in this one, the Yellow Devil for example would kill me from the other side of the room and I had no idea why. And the weapon balance is kinda wack? Some bosses feel like their weakness doesn't change a thing, though some others still get obliterated... Such as, the 2 final bosses, making the end kind of anti-climactic..

Mega Men dies

This game still is fairly enjoyable, it's great but I can see why Mega Man 2 is looked at more fondly. It ends by revealing that this mysterious red robot was actually Proto Man, Mega Man's long lost brother, so I wonder what will happen next to them!

Unless he's, dead, or something

Am I a Mega Man fan now..?
New Game ! [10]
Name: Pokémon Channel
Console: GameCube (Played on: Dolphin)
Year: 2004
Date: 18/02/2024

About as good as any Pokémon game (lol)

I don't really know why I even played this, it's just a Pokémon game where you watch TV every day for a week, I played it with my girlfriend and since we didn't time skip it took us SO LONG to finish. The Pikachu in it is terrfying and will even jumpscare you sometimes (like straight up, he jumps at you). What you do is watch TV programs, from quiz shows to shopping channels, the personality of each of them is really good, but after watching them once the novelty really dies off lol, you do have to watch them all to the end though. Apart from watching TV, after a few days you unlock new parts of the map like a garden to grow flowers or some other places you can take the bus to. Then you repeat the next day, watch new programs, go outside, and that 7 times. The last day is kind of a unique, it gives you a few fetch quests to do with a final quiz question, but if you fail that question you have to wait an entire day to try again, lmao. And once you've done that, you have to wait another day just to see the credits, which just show you the exclusive anime episode you've already seen at least twice by this point! Still, the game can be funny at times and as I said, the different channels are all unique and fun, but that's about it!
A good thing about it is that you can collect cards ingame, not real Pokémon cards sadly, though they do have recreation of the Pokémon Mini games, and that's really cool! Except for the fact they never showed up in the shopping channel so I have no idea how to get them! There's also a weird painting app that basically doesn't work and makes very crunchy images. This game really just feels, off.

Look at this weird off model guy...

Give it a try but don't be too serious about it, after all it's just a way to get Jirachi into the real Pokémon games. So this is my 10th game of the year, huh.

New Game ! [11]
Name: Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan)
Console: Famicom Disk System (Played on: Retroarch Nestopia)
Year: 1986
Date: 18/02/2024

The "hardest" Mario game, huh?

So, this is a direct sequel to SMB1, which was deemed "too hard" for western audiences. And I'd say, this game is indeed hard, but in a kinda smart way, it's still very fun! And NOWHERE near as bad as I thought, don't make your opinion on games from what you hear online. The only unfair parts are because of offscreen things, if you could move the camera like in Super Mario World, this game would be perfect (except for the maze levels.) The best compliment I can give it is that it feels like a very good Mario Maker levels, apart from what I said, the trolls are actually pretty funny, you can feel the developers say "ha! got you!". What sucks is that to play the 4 bonus worlds you have to beat the game 8 times in a row and, I won't do that LOL. I did get to world 9 though, which you get from never using warps! The physics are kinda weird but bouncing really high from enemies can be cool, and the wind isn't that bad either.

Having the full version of this song was really cool!

I'd say this is the only Mario game people are looking at wrongly, I'd say give it a try but by having level maps on another screen, it makes the game actually fun! A nice surprise!

New Manga ! [06]
Name: I Love Amy [나는 에이미를 사랑해
Author: Unun (언니)
Year: 2022
Date: 15/02/2024

A webtoon huh? I'll still count it as a manga sorry~ I didn't even know it was one before starting! Like I said to a friend, reading webtoons is weird it's "like scrolling on Twitter but I actually have to pay attention to what's going on", but changing formats and having full color was a nice change of pace.

"I Love Amy" takes the usual Yandere trope, that I hadn't seen in a while, so a crazy girl falling way too madly in love with some random popular guy just because he helped her once, and really turns it around itself! The crazy girl, Bibi, actually gets a friend to help her get the guy, and she's just a bit messed up in the head and not a total mass murderer like some other girls from the trope. It has a lot of foreshadowing and pretty good story telling, and it's really funny! I kinda like how the main guy is always so confused and just becomes part of the friend gang after some point. It does deal with dark themes at times, but that's also one of its charms, it's just a good heartwarming story with pretty endearing characters, once again, can't say much without spoiling~

The art is really cute and colorful, and it knows when to be funny and when to be serious. Also there's a few pop culture references that were really nice to see as they were very different from the ones you get in Japanese stuff!

Once again, really unique and cool story that puts a twist on an old and honestly not that good trope, but this one is actually good! I felt weirdly good once finishing it www

(i didnt save enough images to have cute ones of the main 2 together)

New Game ! [12]
Name: Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Console: Master System (Played on: Retroarch: Picodrive)
Year: 1992
Date: 20/02/2024

Playing this just cemented what I said about 2J, people online are REALLY bad at video games.

I came to this with very low expectations, thinking it was a mess of an unfair game, but it was actually pretty nice! In contrary to 8bit Sonic 1, you can pick up your rings, which already makes the game WAY better. The game does have weird controls like for the minekarts or the gliders, but apart from that, it's still how you expect Sonic to control. And yes, it has a lot of spike pits, but since you can keep your rings now, you can just hop off of them like nothing happened, it really is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. It felt really short, but it was a nice stroll, it only has unique zones, even if one is named Green Hills (And its theme is actually a remix, or even the original version, of 'You Can Do Anything', and that was a nice surprise!), and they still all have their own identity and mechanics, I liked it, even my most dreaded maze levels were fairly alright and not that confusing! The level designs are very basic though, but it's not too bad. The bosses are pretty cool too, but sadly, you can only hit them once by cycle, which makes them drag on for a bit too much (I sure do hope they won't make that mistake again in 31 years!) I don't really know what else to say, it's not an amazing, but still a fairly good Sonic title, not the total mess people make it out to be. I should really stop trusting strangers on the internet.

Did- did he die?

It's really funny how many connections this game has with 2J, I really wasn't looking forward to playing either of them, but after doing so, I've gained a bit of respect for them and they're both fun games that people are looking at wrongly because they're "harder than usual", trust me, it's NOWHERE near as a bad as something like Castlevania. I'd say give this Sonic 2 a try! Though I can't wait to play the actual Sonic 2.

New Rambing !

Introducing... Rambling sections!
A new way to spice up this blog is to talk about things I find neat or just wanna ramble about, so here it is!
There's already a few things from the past few days so let me get started~
First thing first!

Yuru Yuri is a manga that I love a lot, and what I love even more is it's spin-off, Oomuro-Ke.
And to coincide with the release of the first movie for it, they decided to release Line emojis for it!

As always, I wanted to download them (and some more Line Emojis), so I had to start digging on how to do that.
I found an app on github saying it's a "Downloader for Line Stickers and Emojis" sounds promising right? So I downloaded it, struggled to setup everything (even had to get help from my good tech friend), and after it was all done... I realized it was released 6 years ago, way before Line Emojis were a thing.
So that was a waste of time!

After more digging, I found a guide saying you can download them one by one from the site itself, since the previews are all high quality. But, those emojis I wanted were region locked! I had to setup all of Opera GX with their VPN and HOPE that it'd put me on a Japanese server so that I could do what I wanted.

Grr why do they do this

But, the way to download them had to use the dev tools, one by one, it was long and annoying. So with the help of my brain and trusty GPT, I made my own tool to download them automatically! It was so cool to find the right steps to get it to work, it's flawless now, I'm really proud!

It's so nice and convenient~

That's it for this section, thanks for reading and stay happy~

New Game ! [12]
Name: Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA)
Console: NES (Played on: NES NSO)
Year: 1986
Date: 24/02/2024

Did you know Super Mario Bros. 2 was actually just a reskin of a japanese game called Dok- Nevermind that.

Super Mario Bros. 2 huh? The odd one, yet still enjoyable! It's a nice divergence from the usual formula, and it's cool to see what was kept from this game in later entries! It has 7 worlds, but the levels are way longer than the other games. And you get to choose who to play as! I played as half the game as the Princess, since she can float, and the other half as Luigi, because he jumps higher and he's funny to look at. The level design isn't that unique, but it's basic fun platformer stuff, it does have its "fuck you" moments though.

thank you game

There's a few confusing sections too, but with Luigi and the Princess, you can often do some crazy skips, so it's fun to see where you can just jump over the whole level! The unique thing about this game is that you don't defeat enemies by jumping on them, but by throwing vegetables you pull out of the ground at them. This is fun, though sometimes hard to aim. You can also find potions in the ground that take you to "Subspace", a place where you can get extra hit points or coins for the slot machine, which gives you a chance to get lives, and I think that's really cool, as thanks to it, I never got a game over!

There isn't much else to say, the game is somehow both unique and basic at the same time, the bosses are fun though quite forgettable, I really love the music, but it gets really repetitive after a bit. I'd say check this game out, but maybe don't try too hard on finishing it.

Goodnight~

New Site Update?!!!

As discord APPARENTLY announced a few months back, now images and videos don't stay on it forever.
And as you can guess, basically everything from my site WAS on there. So I, with the GOOD help of my best friend Pudding Pudinesco (go check his site!), we moved basically everything (from the updates at least) on Neocities itself, and Catbox for videos (it took so long). I wanted to do that for a while but never got to it, guess it was too late~
Still, huge thanks to Pudding for the help as I literally wouldn't have done it by myself LOL

I also heard this cool thing I talked about might be releasing "soon", dont take my word for it though!

New Game ! [12]
Name: Super Mario Bros. 3
Console: NES (Played on: A lot of things)
Year: 1988
Date: 27/02/2024

Hmm, a lot of people see this one as the best Mario game, but I'm not sure about that.

The first few worlds are amazing, a huge step up from the SMB2s, but world 8 REALLY put a sour taste in my mouth, it was a huge difficulty spike for no reason, and 3 auto scrollers back to back really was no fun. This game's castles also often are Maze levels that are just "oh find the random good door!", I didn't enjoy it much. The regular levels all have great themes and ideas though, even if some enemies can be annoying. At least it controls very well, it perfected the Mario physics from before to have something that feels nice to run around in. But I don't know why, I really can't get through this game! I played it on Switch NSO but it got old quick, I then switched to playing it on my actual NES and that was fun but I still didn't feel like going through all of it, and then I came back to it again but on an emulator, I really don't know why this game just gets very boring for me, despite it seeming very good!

I can see why people like this game, but the castles and the final world made me really not want to come back to it.

And the curtains close... Thank god

New Game ! [12]
Name: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time
Console: SNES (Played on: Retroarch bsnes)
Year: 1991
Date: 27/02/2024

I needed some fresh air after SMB3, and playing this was the right call!

The action, the music, the presentation it's all so good and gets you into the right mood for the levels! I loved TMNT as a kid and this honestly made me want to check more of the things they made of this franchise. This game is your typical beat em up, but it does so well at that, you just have one basic punch but it does so much, it's just so fun to beat a lot of enemies. The balancing is really good too, every fight feels fair, no one is overpowered, and you aren't either, the boss fights really feel like great encounters! Plus the game is really nice with health pick ups and continues, it really just feels fair. I loved playing it!

It still has a few drawbacks though, one being that it has no pause button at all lol, or that there's one boss that felt a bit clunky because you needed a specific attack to beat him. Also they have pick-ups that are literally a box with a bomb on it, I thought it would explode if you touch it, but no, it enables your character's special attack, maybe making something useful a bomb isn't the best choice.

But overall, I recommend it just to have some mindless fun!

Even if the game does say "fuck you" once you beat it

New Game ! [13]
Name: Super Mario Land
Console: GameBoy (Played on: Retroarch mGBA)
Year: 1988
Date: 28/02/2024

The first portable Mario game! And it's... Weirdly good?

This game is like no other, it's an actual journey on a different world from the Mushroom Kingdom! Mario goes a lot of places like Egypt, flies through space or uses a submarine, it's a very unique Mario game ! (I say that a lot for now, but trust me that won't be the case later lol) The game is short, and fairly easy, though I don't think there is any continue so a game over really is punishing. Mario controls fairly okay, even if he drops like a rock when you fall off a ledge. It really is just weird! The fireballs bounce diagonally, the Koopas explode! You really don't know what to expect from this game, and I think maybe that's why I like it?

SMB3 is great, it's so polished and well put together, but I think that's why I found it boring, it's just the formula at its best, you know what'll happen, you know what the next level will look like, you know how your jumps work. But with this game, things just happen as they want, and to me, a unique short game is way more fun than perfectly molded ones!

Maybe I'm the weird one, but I'd say you should check this game out.

We're still just getting started!

i love you
